Assures the Hoyles that she and Willie are still 'alive and reasonably well'. Willie is 'addicted to doctors and pharmacists', but she prefers 'gin to drugs'. Has recently had an eye exam and new glasses, prior to a driver's license exam on her 68th birthday. The ophthalmologist said there are the first signs of cataracts, but is not worried as understands that 'laser surgery can do wonders'. Martha has 'hitched up (unmarried) with a new man' after a 'hiatus' from the last. She has left Chicago and lives with him in Vermont. They are both 'yoga afficionados [sic] and vegetarians', but when Willie went to see them they went for a fish dinner with wine, so he didn't have to eat granola. Wishes FH and Barbara's families Happy Christmas. If any of them are now divorced doesn't want to hear about it. Misses Gram, who was 'a wonderful friend' during their visits to Cambridge.
