Lieutenant Colonel George Gawler was the second governor of South Australia from 17 October 1838 until 15 May 1841. After retirement from public life he devoted himself to charitable and religious work, and took up the cause of the resettlement of the Jews in Palestine.

Thanks him for writing and sending such a full and beautiful explanation of the amulet. Thanks him for his interest in his son, whom he hopes may be able to take advantage of Loewe's introduction to Mr Elias Sassoon. At the moment his movements are regulated by his service in the 73rd regiment, and it would not be to his advantage to change regiments.Gives news of his eldest daughter Mrs Hall and her family, and responds to Loewe's enquiry about his health.
