Scope and content
Based on the 1849 play by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Legouvé, "Adriana Lecouvreur" is an opera in four acts by Francesco Cilea, with an Italian libretto by Arturo Colautti, first performed in Milan on 6 November, 1902 . Beaton was invited to design the stage set and costumes for the Metropolitan Opera's 1961 production. Due to the cancellation of the Met's 1961-2 season due to labour strikes, however, the opera was postponed and was eventually performed in 1963. Includes correspondence and some costume notes.
