Describes a sea voyage to Edinburgh on a 'Leith smack'. Describes the museum in Edinburgh, its mineral collection and a room of stuffed animals, including the skeleton of 'the Irish fossil elk found lately in the Isle of Man,' which, he believes, 'but for the carelessness of Dr Clarke' would have been in the Fitzwilliam. Describes a walking tour of the highlands, including his liking for the Scots. Includes a note by B. Twopenny noting his admiration for Scottish scenery, manners and whiskey.
