Enquires whether a recent letter purporting to be from his mother was in fact a hoax. Describes the St John Port Latin dinner and a dinner with the Lord Mayor at the Merchant Taylors Hall 'where every thing was cold and cheerless.' Has been invited to a ball by Lady Gifford, and gives news of Lady Gifford's health as well as other family friends.
