Headed by a declaration from a meeting held on 23 December 1825 of the Southampton Anti-Slavery Society, resolving that the following speech would be used in the Southampton area as a way of publicising the Society's views. Sent as an autographed letter from Edward Park, to Clarkson, dated 11 October 1845, from Southampton as a reminder of what was achieved by 'our early exertions in the cause of suffering humanity.'
