Note
In the seventeenth century Trinity College decided to enclose land west of the River Cam, on Garrett Hostel Green, land on which tenant farmers of SJC claimed rights of common, the dispute took years (and many letters) to resolve. Both colleges enlisted their influential supporters to write courteous but telling letters.
