Note
Endorsed `Eximio Sacrarum litterarum professori Mr. Thome Metcalfo archidiacono Roffensi'; but Nicholas, Archdeacon 1512-1537, must be meant.
Venn has the dates 1515-1537 but Fasti quoting the Rochester register, has collation in 1512. (Je Le Neve, Fasti, compiled by B. Jones, vol IV p 42)
The letter is certainly April 1519, as Fisher had not even heard of the Magdalene controversy in April 1518, and by April 1520 the whole issue seems to have died away. April 1519 of course fits perfectly as the printing date of De Unica Magdalena, was 22 February 1519.
Note
The two priories mentioned are interesting. Watton was a Gilbertine twin house in the Beverley area, which enjoyed the patronage of the Constable family. Hull was a Carthusian house which was patronised by the de la Poles. The prior at the Dissolution was one Radulphus Malevorere.' [Ex inf. Richard Rex of Trinity College Cambridge.]
