For all elections to scholarships, exhibitions and award of prizes after 1882 see also the June awards in the Council Minutes (C6), which provide a quicker guide if a question arises whether a particular student was funded by an award. Details of actual payment to individuals can be found in the Tutors’ Accounts and their successors the bill books. Examination for scholarships is discussed in the Praelector’s Book, (pp. 3-11) entered probably between c. 1820 and c. 1850. The Deputy Lecturer presides, the candidates having sent their entry application as a Latin epistle to the Seniors, fixing days in Hall for papers in Latin/English, English/Latin, and Greek/English, English/Greek translation, and appointing what texts he will examine in viva voce.
