Note
The points raised concern the validity of a lease for 99 years, said to have been granted by the College to Robert Wodeward [Woodward], clerk, 20 December 1529, which is alleged to have been sealed by the Master, Nicholas Metcalfe, and not by the College, the Master having the authority to seal leases for one year only. The College put forward a lease dated 20 September 1524, which contains various provisos, which were not fulfilled by William Quilter, to whom the estate came; and so the College had granted the defendants in 1565 a lease for 41 years.
