Note
In 1525 John Dowman, Archdeacon of Suffolk, gave the College land in Burythorpe, Kennythorpe, Birdsall, Langton and Leavening in Yorkshire as well as land in Staveley, Derbyshire. He also gave the money for 5 scholarships and £140 for 9 sizars.
Dowman also founded a chantry in the Pocklington Church with an obligation to provide instruction in grammar – this was the origin of Pocklington School.
Regulations for the scholars, who were to come from Pocklington School, and for the sizars, were copied into the Thin Red Book.
