History

Hearn was born on 30th October 1892 in Hatcham. He attended St. Olave's School, Southwark and was elected to an Exhibition for Classics at St. John's in June 1911. he obtained his BA in 1914. He had been entered at Wells Theological College with a view to ordination in 1915 but instead joined the Inns of Court at the outbreak of war from which he gained his commission in 1915. From there he went to France where he served until 1916 with a short period of sickness spent in England. After this his battalion moved to Macedonia and then Palestine. He was awarded the Military Cross in November 1917. He died in action near Jerusalem on April 30th 1918.
