Brewster's life of Newton.

Acknowlegement of letter and copy of paper on Neptune. D. Brewster now writing the article for the North British Review. Admiring JCA's achievement at the mathematics of perturbations; valuable even if planet not discovered.

In French. On papers thought to be by Pascal, now believed to be Newton, on the satellites of Jupiter and Saturn. Statement of opinions on the matter quoting UJJL, Chasles and Brewster, for JCA to comment on.

Writing on David Brewster's recommendation. Requests information on JCA's work on secular acceleration of the moon to assist in finding the correct date for the eclipse predicted by Thales.

Enclosure with D.B. to J.C.A. 9 May 1847. Congratulates D.B. on article [on Uranus in North British Review]; has given copy to Lord Russell and asked for pension for J.C.A. on the basis of it. Ld. R. refused, but H.H. is hopeful he will come round.

The letter was discovered in JCA's papers with letters from D. Brewster, March - May 1855, (Box 5/37), and had evidently been sent to Brewster for comment and returned, through the post.

The remainder of Newton's drafts of letters to Cotes are among the Portsmouth Papers in CUL, and the final versions (other than that of this letter), are in Trinity College Library.
