Informs FH that he has been elected an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy on 16 Mar. The offer is made in 'recognition of your major contributions over many years to the whole of astronomy and astrophysics and the stimulating effect of your work in many special fields'. Honorary Members in the Section of Science are 'limited to thirty persons', and are usually those with ' special regard for Ireland'. Hopes that FH may be able to come to Dublin to present an 'evening Discourse' at some time.

Is sorry that he can't chair the Omni lecture. The BBC have already booked a trip to Homestead Mine to film part of the 25th anniversary of the 'Sky at Night' in April. 'Bitterly' regrets that he can't be at what he knows will be a 'great' lecture.
