Gives the description of a 'most fearful thrashing' which EB administered to a 'Feaks' in a room in the Red Lion in Cambridge, first with his fists and then a stick until he thought Feaks was 'done up'. Asks WP to try to recover the stick and to see if Feaks is to press charges in any way.

A.L., s. from George Baker, St John's College to William Pye of Durham

Wonders why half of his letters do not arrive safely, and blames either the post or his 'boy'. Notes that it has been extremely cold, with the river frozen over, and many people have been skating but is pleased that the ice has melted as he was concerned about coal supplies. Gives a description of the preparations for Christmas at the College. Notes a rumour circulating about the Duke of Cumberland breaking his neck.
