Refers to a letter from Montgomery Martin to Sir Robert Peel, which tells of his suspicions that the French have designs on the Island of Chusan. Aberdeen does not share these suspicions, but thinks it wise for Sir John to be aware of them, and be prepared to act should evidence be found. He asks Sir John to keep the information private.
