Autograph copy signed of a letter from Henry D.A. Major, Principal of Ripon Hall Oxford, to Ernest Harold Pearce, Bishop of Worcester

Thanks P for his letter. M not received a letter from Bezzant. M wrote to Bezzant and hopes he recognises the divine guidance in P's decision. It places them in difficult situation but if it for Bezzant's good that should come first. Glad to hear of P's interest in Ripon Hall and encloses booklet and latest annual report.

Autograph draft signed of a letter from Henry D.A. Major, Principal of Ripon Hall Oxford, to Ernest Harold Pearce, Bishop of Worcester

Agrees that longer parochial experience would be of value to Bezzant. M wishes Bezzant might come to Ripon in year and a half but this not possible. Question of Bezzant's heart - M thinks a clergyman's health is a consideration which should be ignored if possible. Richardson tells M that Bezzant's cycling in a hilly parish is very bad for him. M doesn't think Bezzant could be in more favourable environment than he is in at present - whether it continue to be as valuable if Bezzant disappointed is a difficult psychological problem.

Autograph letter signed from Henry D.A. Major, Ripon Hall Oxford, to Bezzant

Encloses the Bishop's letter - he yields and M has accepted and thanked him. The Governors appointed Rev. Alexander T.W. Dowding for 2 years and M has little doubt they do same for Bezzant - is this acceptable? The salary would be £250 + board, lodging etc. Would Bezzant ask his Vicar if he would release him?
