Note saying how pleased he was to see Crook at the funeral of Sir Harold Bailey. He mentions that he visited Crook's rooms earlier in the month to show him a copy of his recently published 'Routledge course in Georgian' (which he left with the porter) and was sorry not to have the chance to talk to him after the funeral, since he had two other newly published books that he wanted to show him. (A copy of Bailey's obituary is attached: two pages).

He points out that it will be a time consuming exercise to edit/rewrite aspects of Paget's manuscript and indicates that Dr Daniel's suggested fee is realistic. He requests clarification of Crook's involvement.

A note to let Crook know that he will be taking his advice and devoting his attention to TP Sulp, while relegating the rest to the background. He mentions that he will be asking Prof. Wolf for advice, but with some trepidation, since he was the anonymous referee who tried to spear his research proposal.

He reminds Crook of their meeting in the early 1990s when he spoke about 'man's underestimated capacity for expressing apparently contradictory beliefs'. In receipt of a two-year grant to prepare a study of the Campanian wax-tablet, he asks Crook of his reaction to such a project and if he may show him drafts.
