Hopes he will meet a Johnian sergeant with whom he can talk about Classics. Encourages him to write to Charlesworth. Discusses the Kentish hop and apple picking season. Intends to help Mr Stagg, a local farmer who attended Wellington College. Supposes that the Maidstone Orchestra is suspended, having heard nothing from Sigger. Sends news of Mrs Rose and Mr Bussey. The letter is marked returned because addressee missing.
