Has received the instructions regarding the writing of the chapter. Is honoured at being asked to take part and is pleased that more space has been devoted to Medieval Ireland.

Sends the second section of his chapter on Ireland and also the bibliographies for the two sections he has now completed. Hopes they are adequate for the task.

Would like others to complete chapters on mysticism and witchcraft and suggests Mrs Stuart Moore and Mrs Thorndike. His wife's illness has put him behind by one year and feels he does not have the time to make a good job of it. Has just finished Arts and the Reformation and now has work to do on school history volumes. Will do something for the Bishop of Liverpool but has said that he cannot put a time to it.

Discusses Volume IV of the Cambridge Medieval History and a chapter concerning the dispersal of the Jews.

Gives thanks for the full details of the scheme for Volume VI. Is pleased that he does not need to complete a strict political chronology and is glad for some latititude on the institutional side. Wishes to include some development of the Common Law.

Encloses his work on Henry III. Knows it is overdue but has rewritten most of it. Discusses, and justifies, the content of his piece. Is publishing a piece of work on a similar theme in the near future.

Is anxious about eyesight which, due to poor advice, has not recovered. Has been told he has cataracts but one eye should hold out. Has started 'The Age of Dante' but his reading is slow. Is worried about the chapters on the Popes of the fifteenth century and the Medicis. Has good notes concerning the Popes but the Medicis he is out of touch with. Suggests three historians, Mrs Ady, Mrs Lernor and Mr Roth, who could write the chapter on the Medici's.

Refers to a proposal asking him to consider writing a chapter on Italy. Suggests that he undertook to write a chapter on the fifteenth century Popes but as he is retiring from course work he may have more time to write on Dante, Popes and the Medicis. Anything further will be difficult as it is not his period. Hopes to meet Tanner on the Tripos dinner. Includes note by Tanner? dated 24 June.
