Green, James Alexander (1926-2014) mathematician
BSc. St Andrew's University 1944 (awarded after two years under wartime regulations; honours completed after the war). Worked at Bletchley Park with Max Newman during the war, where he met his wife, Margaret Lord. Matriculated at St John's College 1947, PhD 1951. Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 1968. Fellow of the Royal Society (of London) 1987. Member of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, University of Oxford. MA status (Oxon) 1994.

Newspaper journalist, and later documentary film director, Grafton Green was employed by the Ministry of Information during the Second World War as overseas features editor in the Publications Division.
