Upchurch, Kent

Includes: plan of College property at Upchurch, Kent. The plan was copied by Newton's & Berry, 66 Chancery Lane [London]. The plan's reference lists the acreage of Great Broom field, the '5 Acres', Little Broom field and 'Black Horse'.

Upper Gore End & Birchington: H. Maxted

A map of Upper Gore End and Birchington Kent, by Henry Maxted of Canterbury 1741, copied from a map by Thomas Hill 1678, coloured with topographical details (84 x 81 cms). The map is enlivened with drawings of houses, standing crops and contains a floral cartouche and compasses.

The original scale is approximately 12 perches to 1 inches.

Upper Gore End Farm

Includes 2 duplicate plans with references of Upper Gore End Farm, Birchington, Kent. These are smaller versions of Hutson's 1788 map (BRK1/3). They appear to have been cut from leases. There are pencil notes of quantities which differ on the 2 plans. The farmhouse doesn't appear on either plan.

  • in the hand of Thomas Baker: "E libro [ut videtur] Scarcarii. Donum ornstissimi viri Jacobi West, Armigeri [Jacob West, Knight]. Bought at Mr Le Neve's auction, who having been employ'd in the exchequer, I've very much doubt, had borrow'd it from thence, with some other manuscripts, in the catalogue for they wer most properly lodge. Mr Le Neve has left such a character behind him, as mver much confirms this suspicion."

Valuations: Burmarsh

Valuation of the College's estate at Burmarsh, Kent late in the lease of William Pepper but assigned to RA Webber. The property was viewed in 1800 and the document produced in 1810.
