Views of Plate by Auditors: Steward

Includes: list or inventory of College plate viewed and weighed by College auditors; accounts of plate brought in and delivered to the College, plate belonging to the Fellows' buttery, the Master's plate and the President's plate. Also includes the admission of noblemen and fellow-commoners (folios 271v -272r).
Additionally bound in at the reverse of the volume is a letter, Henry Eyre, SJC fellow [?] as bursar, to Thomas Fothergill, enclosing the 'new' library [summary] building account. The building accounts include £160 for the "roof within and £245 for the "greater and lesser seales" not given in the original accounts of 1623-1624.
Also at the reverse of the volume are a series of orders from Master and Seniors (1650-1654) relating to using and studying in the 'new' library, borrowing books from the library, Sir Martin's [fellow] small pox, those holding Masters of Arts and being resident in College having to officiate in Chapel, Fellows' leave and days of absence and the responsibility of tutors over delinquent student.

Also included a list of delegates staying in College (1926); correspondence about conference accommodation (1926); a list of names of teachers in secondary schools (1927); letter from the University of London to College (1926); a monthly statement and a few handrwitten notes.

Valuations: Burmarsh

Valuation of the College's estate at Burmarsh, Kent late in the lease of William Pepper but assigned to RA Webber. The property was viewed in 1800 and the document produced in 1810.

  • in the hand of Thomas Baker: "E libro [ut videtur] Scarcarii. Donum ornstissimi viri Jacobi West, Armigeri [Jacob West, Knight]. Bought at Mr Le Neve's auction, who having been employ'd in the exchequer, I've very much doubt, had borrow'd it from thence, with some other manuscripts, in the catalogue for they wer most properly lodge. Mr Le Neve has left such a character behind him, as mver much confirms this suspicion."
